Cultivating this can be important to do, from being supportive to giving advice in terms of classes/degrees to take.

The widespread visibility of law on television does not hurt. Several decades ago courtroom shows appeared, which continue today, such as in the ever-popular “Law and Order” series and its spin-offs. It has done well on the silver screen also, from legal dramas to thrillers and horror movies.

If your child is in high school or college, perhaps you could encourage him or her to take classes in this topic, if an interest is displayed. Government class in high school, and a few options in college (such as political philosophy), can do this quite well. Your child might be able to determine if this is something that would be a good fit.

It is also a good idea to allow your child to see what a career in law looks like. As with any prospective career, be on the lookout for job shadowing opportunities. The more your child sees, the better he or she will be able to determine if it might be right for him or her.

From watching “Law and Order” to reading Plato’s “The Republic,” you can cultivate this interest in your child. It is certainly a worthwhile career to take an interest in; try to be supportive in this difficult transitionary phase.
